Can You Use a Debit Card on Polymarket?

Polymarket does not support debit cards as a direct payment method. The platform operates on a crypto-first basis and exclusively accepts USDC transfers on the Polygon blockchain. That said, residents in the UK have a straightforward workaround: funding Polymarket through a debit card becomes possible by routing your payment through a third-party cryptocurrency exchange, a process that takes only a handful of steps.

How to Deposit via Debit Card (UK)

  • Step 1: Sign up for an account with Coinbase, Kraken, or Revolut (each of these platforms accepts UK Visa and Mastercard debit cards)
  • Step 2: Finish the exchange's identity verification process (usually completed instantly using a passport or driving licence)
  • Step 3: Purchase USDC using your debit card through the exchange
  • Step 4: Transfer your USDC to a MetaMask wallet configured for the Polygon network
  • Step 5: Move your funds from MetaMask into your Polymarket account

Which UK Exchanges Accept Debit Cards?

The majority of established cryptocurrency exchanges available to UK customers accept Visa and Mastercard debit cards when purchasing digital assets:

  • Coinbase UK — Accepts Visa and Mastercard, instant processing, approximately 1.5% charge
  • Revolut — Allows USDC purchases through the mobile app with your Revolut card, minimal charges
  • Kraken — Supports Visa and Mastercard, around 1.5% fee, holds FCA authorisation
  • Binance UK — Accepts Visa and Mastercard, offers reasonable pricing

Are There Bank Restrictions?

Certain UK financial institutions (including Starling Bank and select Lloyds accounts) may refuse cryptocurrency transactions made on debit cards. Should your payment fail to go through, reach out to your bank and request permission for crypto transactions, or switch to a bank with a more accommodating stance towards digital assets (such as Revolut, Monzo, or Wise).

Total Time: Debit Card to Trading

For those with an already-verified exchange account: fewer than 10 minutes. If you're setting up a new account with rapid identity checks: expect between 30 and 60 minutes.
